Looking to put their awful 1-15 season behind them as soon as possible, the Dolphins look to be moving fast in free agency as they will be visiting with a few players on Friday. Scheduled to be in Davie today includes Raiders QB Josh McCown, as well as Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace. The Dolphins QB situation will be one to watch with great interest, as Cleo Lemon looks to possibly move elsewhere, and John Beck didn’t give a lot of people hope that he was ready to play last season as a rookie.
McCown started 31 games in six seasons between the Cards, Lions and Raiders. Last season in his only season in Oakland he played in nine games, with a QB rating of 69.4, throwing for 1151 yards with 10 TD’s and 11 picks. While he stated earlier before free agency his desire to stay with the Raiders, it would be as a backup as 2nd year QB JaMarcus Russell will for sure be the starter this season barring injury.
As for Pace, he’s a solid pass rusher and the 27-year-old had a breakout season in 2007 with the Cards with 98 tackles and 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble. He’s the type of player the Fins need to make an impact on defense, the issue will be what type of “break the bank” deal is he looking for? In five seasons in Arizona, Pace has a total of 14 sacks in 67 games, 186 tackles and five forced fumbles.
