Former Falcons TE Crumpler Eying Titans?

After being released by the Falcons, TE Alge Crumpler began looking for a new uniform for the 2008 Season. Among the teams calling for Crumpler’s services are the Tennessee Titans, who utilize the QB-TE tandem to move the chains. The Titans management and Crumpler’s agent, James Williams, will meet this week at the NFL Combine. Williams told the Tennessean, “I have heard from the Titans, and Tennessee is very attractive to him. It is a well-run organization, and Alge could come in and help them get to the next level if the situation is right.”

Last season, Crumpler was without a disciplined QB and finished with a plagued bummed knee, 42 receptions, 444 yards and 5 TDs. But in 2005 and 2006 combined, with the mobile QB Mike Vick, Crumpler put up 121 receptions, 1657 yards and 13 TDs.

The Titans mobile QB Vince Young has utilized the TE since his days at the University of Texas with Patriots’ Dave Thomas. Now in Tennessee, VY has Bo Scaife, who was third on the Titans in receptions for 2006 and 2007 and third on the team in receiving yards in 2007. Under Titans HC Jeff Fisher, TEs Bo Scaife and Ben Troupe put together 51 receptions and 468 total yards throughout their injuries in 2007. Troupe, an unrestricted free agent, is expected to be let go making room for another receiving TE, perfect for the likings of Crumpler. A healthy Crumpler can be a mobile QB’s best friend, and VY should be itching for an improved offense heading into 2008. Just imagine the numbers for a Young-Scaife-Crumpler tandem.
