Two Super Bowlers to Skip Pro Bowl

Brady

It’s uncanny how similar Tom Brady is to Coach Bill Belichick. They both have a huge drive to win, the ability to underplay any win, and now the show of a complete lack of sportsmanship. Tom Brady and teammate Randy Moss have both decided to skip this season’s Pro Bowl after losing the Super Bowl the previous week. Coincidence, I don’t really think so.

While the official reason they are giving out is they are both suffering from ankle injuries, it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s more to do with ego injury. No one has ever doubted the size of Randy Moss’s ego, as the only other person in Pro Football with at least an equivalent sized ego would likely be Terrell Owens, but quite a few people might be surprised about Tom Brady having an ego. Evidently they forget who his mentor is, Bill “I only shake hands if we win” Belichick.

I won’t go as far as to say that Tom Brady didn’t deserve to get into the Pro Bowl, that would be ridiculous as he only put up the best numbers of any QB in NFL history. I would say, however, that this is a real slap in the face to all of the fans that voted for him and Randy Moss to go this season. The Pro Bowl is the final game of the season, and the only game of the season where fans can vote to watch all of their favorite players duke it out on the same field. It should be an honor to be named to the Pro Bowl, but apparently it’s too much of a hassle for some.

Maybe I am just old fashioned, living in the days before my time, where players were payed in nickel and dimes and played the game for the love of the sport and their fans that watch them, but I truly think that players in the NFL today have completely missed the point. They get paid the millions that they make because of the fans. They owe their paycheck to those who watch them. They owe their gratitude at the very least. If there wasn’t a fan base to recognize their greatness just how great are they?

Now I might just be reading too much into this and Randy Moss and Tom Brady really are injured, if so then I am horribly mistaken in my accusations, but it seems to me that right now they have lost touch of what really matters. If this is the case, and to them the fans don’t matter, than maybe they really never deserved the Pro Bowl anyways. Just hopefully two-more deserving-individuals will be named in their stead.
