The New York Giants have fiercely fought their way to the Super Bowl after finishing 8-2 over their last ten games. The Giants were doubted and abusively teased going into this season after 2006’s disappointment and the 2007 preseason’s dismal start. In fact, the Giants began the season with a 0-2 record before they blazed a six-game win streak from the end of September to the end of October. In the 2007-2008 Season, there were three very important wins that clinched team spirit, work ethic and the future of this team that made it possible for a rematch with the undefeated AFC Champions in the Super Bowl.
The New England Patriots have assured America that their No. 1. They’ve been chasing perfection since Week 1 against the New York Jets. Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker and the New England Defense have pounded their opponents creating a victorious ego and never-die spirit that fuels the Patriot Win Machine. Among the 18 wins achieved by the Patriots, there are three games that fueled the Patriots to the Super Bowl.
2007 Regular Season – 09/23/07 – Giants Defeat Redskins 24-17 @ WAS. After two straight NYG losses to begin the season, the throwback Washington Redskins began to pound Manning and the Giants with big plays by WAS QB Jason Campbell, RB Clinton Portis, TE Chris Cooley, WR Santana Moss and DE Andre Carter. By halftime, NYG QB Eli Manning was cursing, WR Plaxico Burress was catchless and the ‘Skins were up 17-3. But Coughlin’s Giants turned it around in the second half as RB Rueben Droughns, Plax and Manning were on fire carrying the team to a 24-17 lead with a minute remaining. Then it was up to the Giants D to stand off the ill-advised WAS RB Betts (instead of Portis) on the goalline. They did for 4 straight downs and won their first 2007 Regular Season game.
2007 Playoffs – Sunday 01/13/08 – Giants Upset Cowboys 21-17 @ DAL. The New York Giants developed a nasty D-Line and a capable offense within their final 8 weeks before meeting the Cowboys in the Playoffs. The Giants carried a swagger more mature than the 2006 season’s “Ballin.” They carried a swagger that boosted a mature yet inexperienced offense into cooperative leaders. In the game, NYG DE Michael Strahan had 7.5 total tackles and QB Eli Manning, RBs Brandon Jacobs & Ahmad Bradshaw, and WR Amani Toomer put together 251 yards and three NYG touchdowns before capping the game with a R.W. McQuarters Romo-Interception to win the game.
2007 Playoffs – 01/20/08 – Giants Upset Packers 23-20 @ GB. Surprise, Surprise and Adios and have a good ride home, Brett! The Giants defeated GB and earned their ticket to Arizona. NYG dominated GB as the Giants put up 377 Total Net Yards to the Packers’ 264. Manning reached for stardom as he completed 21/40 with 251 yards. Jacobs and Bradshaw combined 130 yards and 2 TDs. And the Always-Questionable, Plaxico Burress, came through with flying Red, White and Blue to take the Giants to the Super Bowl with 11 receptions with 151 total yards.
2007 Regular Season – 09/16/07 – Patriots Defeat Chargers 38-14 @ NE. One week off of Spy Gate, Bill and the Pats had something to shove in the face of the rest of the NFL, and that was “W’s.” The Bolts and Pats, both at 1-0, looked to be going in for a high scoring game as the QB Brady drove his team for a score on their first drive. The drive was in 2:46 and only seven passes to the likes of WRs Moss, Welker and finally a TD for TE Watson. And then America never saw the Chargers show up. They were intimidated and looked to already have lost the game. Whether it was Adalius Thomas’ Pick-Six, Colvin’s all around D (FF,Sack,Pick), or Randy Mosses’ (8rec-105yds-2TDs) spectacular catches, the Patriots began to look like the undefeated team they are today.
2007 Regular Season – 12/03/07 – Patriots Defeat Ravens 27-24 @ BAL. One week after a spectacular finish over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Patriots went into Baltimore to face an Inspired-21-Baltimore-Defense. Teams began to realize that the Patriots are beatable, and so the Ravens took up the challenge, and they did it well. On the ground, BAL RB Willis McGahee rumbled or 138 yds while QB Kyle Boller accurately spread the ball around keeping the Ravens up on the Pats until the final minute when Brady showed his bravery and ability to keep calm and cool under pressure. The Pats D stopped Mark Clayton from Boller’s bomb on the 2-yd line after Brady finished the game with a TD to Jabar Gaffney to win the game.
2007 Regular Season – 12/29/07 – Patriots Defeat Giants 38-35 @ NYG. The Pats couldn’t seem to contain the NYG Special Teams, Manning, Burress or Jacobs as the Giants went up by 12 points in the third quarter before Pats RB Boney Maroney and WR Welker put the Pats back on the board 23-28 Giants. And then the Brady(50 TDs)-Moss(23 TDs) TD connection made history as they passed Peyton Manning and Jerry Rice’s records respectively and are trying to send the Patriots towards their newest record, 19-0.
