Early Thought on the Weekend’s Divisional Games

Getting ready for the weekend

Well, at least so far. Last week I did the dumb thing, taking all the home teams, thinking that home field meant something in this league. Mind you it does, but only if the team comes out and does something with it. Both the Steelers and Buccaneers, home teams that lost, had 7-0 leads in their games, only to see them go up in smoke and eventually lose. The Steelers had too many turnovers and couldn’t stop the Jags late, while the Bucs offense was no match whatsoever for the Giants punishing defense.

On to some thoughts about this week. While I will give my full predictions on Friday, since it’s such a hot topic, here are some of my early thoughts on the four games this weekend. I will tell you right off the bat the big lines in each game don’t bother me at all, except for one (thank you Jessica Simpson) and I think that on the surface, with time to spare to change my mind, I think for now I like each home team, but one is making me very nervous.

While I will be doing the 5 Keys for each team again later in the week as well, here are some quick hits about these four games:

Seattle at Green Bay: A lot of people are jumping on the Hawks defense, saying that they are going to give the Packers big problems based on how well they played vs the Redskins. Wait a minute. While Seattle’s D played great in the first half, didn’t the Skins have a lead AND THE BALL in the fourth quarter? They gave up 319 yards to a rather bland Skins team that was throwing TODD COLLINS in our face. I think the Pack will be able to be explosive on offense, and look out playing against a banged up Matt Hasslebeck. 26 and mostly cloudy in Green Bay Saturday so weather shouldn’t be too much of a factor.

Jacksonville at New England: Everyone kept talking about how ‘no one wants to play Jacksonville.’ Uh, scratch that. I think even giving the 12 points the Jags are cooked like a Thanksgiving turkey here. The Pats are so dynamic on offense, that you can bet that MVP Tom Brady is going to be able to shred that Jags secondary that allowed the Steelers to come back from 18 down in the fourth quarter and almost beat them Saturday night. Memo to Paul Spicer (what have you done in your career to deserve to be talking anyway?!) – shhhhh! Why would you want to tick off a sleeping, and very refreshed giant?

San Diego at Indianapolis: The Chargers looked totally flat to me Sunday, and even though they came back to beat a tough Titans team, I am wondering if they have it in them to make this a game. They look like they may be without TE Antonio Gates, and LT didn’t do enough to impress me in the running department. As for the defense, it should be able to give Peyton and company some looks early, but the Colts have more than enough weapons to get it done, and they also will have that feeling of anew after a full week off, plus most of the starters didn’t play much in that season finale vs the Titans.

New York Giants at Dallas: Memo to Tony Romo – Jessica Simpson is a whore who Who's dumber in this pic? can wait till February 4th for a vacation to Mexico! Are you for real?! Your team is two games away from the Super Bowl and your trolling in Mexico with this no-talent blonde idiot! Cowboys fans are freaking, and they should be, as Romo has his mind more in Jessica’s pants then he does on a Giants team that has won 8 straight on the road. Ah shucks, maybe after Sunday he’ll get his act together and realize that without T.O. he is going to need to throw 25 passes to Jason Witten. As for the Giants, they played well enough last week to make me nervous about this one, and I am thinking the Cowboys defense is going to bail them out (somehow).
