As the Titans get set for a wild card matchup with the Chargers Sunday, they will do it without their leading wide out. Roydell Williams will miss the game and any thereafter as he broke his ankle in Wednesday’s practice. Williams is the Titans leading receiver, as he has 55 catches for 719 yards and four touchdowns. The team is losing pass catchers at a record pace this week, as they lost tight end Bo Scaife yesterday to the IR list, and earlier this year lost Brandon Jones to injured reserve.
“It is a challenge,” Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said. “We have a number of players we started the season with that are out, but you just move on.” The injury to Williams will require both plates and screws to repair. The team says it’s expected he’ll need about six weeks to recover. So who will the Titans turn to when it comes to catching the ball Sunday? Justin Gage will be the number one, as he is tied with Williams in catches with 55. Eric Moulds with 32 catches will be called upon, as will Ben Hartsock (12 catches) and Ben Troupe (5 catches).
Look for the team to run, run, and run some more Sunday. The Titans average only 179.9 yards per game passing (27th in the league) and overall their offense is ranked 21st putting up 311.7 yards per contest. Losing Williams will only hurt an already beat up offense.
