Week 17 Preview: New Orleans at Chicago

 Payton and Brees

This week the Saints head to Soldier Field to take on the Bears in hopes of keeping their playoff chances alive. In order for the Saints to make it into the post-season, they must win and both the Redskins and Vikings must lose. It’s a long shot, but they will still be playing for it.

Last week Chicago upset Green Bay in a 35-7 win in which Chicago’s defense looked like that of old. They kept Brett Favre from being Brett Favre, which is a pretty amazing accomplishment. Their focus will be the same this week. Their defense will try to keep Drew Brees off the mark and try to make plays to set up their less than average offense.

After a disappointing loss to Philadelphia last week, expect the Saints to come ready to play. Drew Brees will be leading the offense. Expect him to try and pick apart the Bears defense early. I also would not be surprised to see a few tricky plays early. Stecker will also be used for screens and runs to try and not make the Saints one dimensional.

I expect a close game. The Bears defense will probably make a few big plays, but I think their offense will not be able to capitalize, even with a sub-par Saints secondary. In the end, I think Sean Payton’s aggressive play calling will win the game for them. Prediction: 21 – 17 Saints.
