The Denver Broncos off a 41-7 beating of the Chiefs Sunday roll into Houston to take on the Texans in the Thursday night game this week. The Texans are coming off an impressive two TD win over the Bucs at home, but even at that both these teams will be watching the playoffs this year and enjoying New Year’s with their families. The Texans will have to go with backup Sage Rosenfels again, as QB Matt Schaub remains out. Last week Sage threw for three TD’s in the big win at home over the Bucs.
At 6-7, both teams know any remote playoff shot will be gone with a loss here, so expect both teams to come out with nothing to lose. The Broncos used a lot of Selvin Young last week, and the young back went for a career-high 156 yards on 17 carries. Expect to see a lot of him and for him to be a solid test for the Texans run defense. The Texans will throw a lot, and against a pretty good Broncos secondary, I think that they will have to mix in the run well enough to keep the Broncos honest.
Both these teams have the ability to put up yards and points, and while weather will not be a factor, I expect to see a lot of back and forth in this contest. I like what I saw from Rosenfels last week, but overall the Broncos have a better secondary that should force a few mistakes, and Jay Cutler will be able to make a few plays to lead them to victory.
