Cowboys Gab Columnist Nate Acreman’s NFL Picks for Week 8

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Kyle Boller (7) is sacked by Buffalo Bills defensive end Anthony Hargrove (93) and linebacker John DiGiorgio (52)

While many people are already looking forward to next week’s big match up, the hard charging New England Patriots at the much improved Indianapolis Colts, there are still games to be played this week. The question is will the Patriots vs. Colts game feature two undefeated teams or will one of those teams lose this week? Lets see how I fare this week with my picks.

NY Giants @ Miami Dolphins- This game will be interesting. It’s supposed to be a home game for Miami but it’s being played in London. Home field advantage will be a non factor here, and I expect the Giants to continue on rolling this week right through the hapless Miami Dolphins. An interesting fact about the Dolphins, only one team has scored more points than the Dolphins have allowed. Want to guess who? NY Giants win this one 27-10.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals- The Steelers are coming off an upsetting loss to the Denver Broncos while the Bengals scraped up a win against the Jets. The Bengals won’t be able to repeat the success this week however. The Bengals’ defense is just horrendous and the Steelers defense is still one of the best in the league. Steelers win this one easily 34-14.

Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears- Both these teams had great wins last week, Chicago over Philadelphia and Detroit over Tampa Bay. Chicago seems to have found an offense since trading out Rex Grossman for Brian Griese and Detroit had a pretty good defensive show against Tampa Bay. The question is which of these teams are for real and which one is pretending. The Bears are for real. Not as good as they were last year defensively but more rounded since Grossman has hit the bench. Bears win 24-21.

Indianapolis Colts @ Carolina Panthers- Big question mark here for Carolina. Does anyone really know who is going to be throwing or not throwing the ball this weekend? They have two options since Delhomme is on IR, David ‘Just Throw the Ball Please’ Carr and Vinny ‘Don’t Throw the ball there…sigh’ Testeverde. I don’t like their options here against a team that ranks number one against the pass. The Colts win this 28-17 and go on to face New England still undefeated.

Cleveland Browns @ St Louis Rams- Question, can the Rams really manage to finish the season with a winless record? My answer: No. The Cleveland Browns have been very good offensively this season, but defensively they still have problems. Watch those defensive problems this week payoff huge for a team struggling to get their first win. St Louis wins a close one 24-23.

Oakland Raiders @ Tennessee Titans- There is a fight in the west, as the AFC West and NFC West dual out for the worst division in the NFL. Tennessee pulled off an exciting win against the Texans with the help of 8 successful field goal attempts. This week the should have Vince Young again and I expect they will be able to find the end zone a few more times and give their poor kicker a little bit of a rest. Tennessee Wins 21-13.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Minnesota Vikings- The Eagles are in trouble as the Cowboys and Giants are running away with the division. Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson only rushed for 65 yards against the Cowboys but that was due more to Coach Brad Childress not utilizing him more than Peterson’s own short comings. Look for Childress to correct that mistake this week against the Eagles. The Vikings win this one off the legs of Adrian Peterson 20-17.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Tampa Bay didn’t stop the Lions offense like they wanted to, and while they had success in the running game (despite being down to their third running back), they didn’t move the ball like they wanted to either. Jacksonville didn’t do so hot either. They are without David Garrard and might be wondering why they didn’t keep Byron Leftwich. Being down to your second string quarterback is going to prove more devastating than being down to a third running back. Tampa Bay wins a low scoring game 17-10.

Buffalo Bills @ NY Jets- Buffalo had a really big win last week against the Baltimore Ravens while the NY Jets lost to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bills were able to pull off a win the last time these two teams met, which happened to be the Bills first win of the season. Look for them to get their third win off the same team. Bills win 21-19.

Houston Texans @ San Diego Chargers- The Chargers are better now than they were at the beginning of the season and the Texans are better now than they have ever been. I really want to pick the Chargers this week, and normally if these two teams played it would be a solid pick. There is just too much going on in San Diego right now and the Chargers haven’t had a lot of normalcy in the last week or so. I pick the Houston Texans to upset the Chargers 27-17.

New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers- At the beginning of the season everyone seemed to be on these two teams bandwagon. The 49ers started off pretty good, but their lack of offense started paying dividends for other teams. The Saints looked to be dead just two weeks ago but with two back to back wins against the Seahawks and the Atlanta Falcons they look like they might be back on track. Neither of these two teams really impress me this year, but I think the Saints are getting their confidence back while 49ers are slipping deeper and deeper into a hole. The Saints will win this 23-13.

Washington Redskins @ New England Patriots- Could this be it? The week the Patriots actually get beat. What are you kidding me? Not a chance. The Redskins defense has been great but offensively they won’t be able to keep up. The Patriots will win this game, but they won’t put up points in the 30s for the first time all season. Final Score 28-17.

Green Bay Packers at Denver Broncos- Green Bay has had a lot of success throwing the ball and have had a lot of success on defense. They have, however, had no success running the ball. The Denver Broncos with Champ Baily at corner, pride themselves on their pass coverage. So far this season we have seen why we have all loved Brett Favre over the many many years he has played, Monday night we’ll remember why we flinch every time he throws the ball in tight situations. Broncos win 27-24.
