Bears Gab Editor Russ Loede’s NFL Picks for Week 8

L.T. after a win

7-7 (46-50-7)

Stl. (+3.5) over Cleve.
Getting All-Pro RB Steven Jackson back will be a huge factor and plus for a struggling Rams offense.  Kicker Jeff Wilkins and the defense make some plays towards the end and Bulger improves from last week’s bad outing.  Home team will come out on top in this one.

Chicago (-5) over Det.
Bears play great against Lions at home and the offense is doing really well, being led by QB Brian Griese.  Defense has their best game of the season and forces 3+ turnovers and the run game gets on-track, giving Chicago the T.O.P. advantage which will be key.

Indy (-7) over Car.
Liked what DeAngelo Williams brought to the table two weeks ago and the defense of the Panthers is showing it’s talent.  Colts too good on defense now, to go along with Manning and Co lighting up the scoreboad.  Manning over Vinny T. anyday, Colts by 13 here.

NYG (-10) over Mia.
Ronnie Brown is out and done for the season and Brandon Jacbos is showing why he is a premiere, featured back to keep an eye on.  Giants are on a roll and they won’t stop here, offense is Top 5 caliber and the defense is above average right now.

Oak. (+7.5) over Tenn.
Titans will win this game and Raiders will cover the spread.  I don’t like picking Oakland and Vince Young is back.  Titans win their games very closely and I think this will be the same against a good Raider D.  Titans run game and defense provide consistency to get a victory here.  Tennessee red zone offense is lacking in terms of production as far as TD’s and I think this game will be tight and low-scoring.  The defenses hold the offenses pat throughout the battle.

Philly (-1) over Minn.
Eagles have too much offense and their defense is playing really well.  Minnesota only has A.P. and their defense against the pass is awful.  Philly will come out firing and clicking on all cylinders and win this one convincingly.

Pitt. (-4) over Cinn.
Steelers don’t lose two in a row too often and their offense should roll all over Bungals.  Defense will play much better after last week’s loss and they will put together complete, balanced performance to win by 10.

NYJ (-3) over Buff.
Classic push game and the Jets have more offense than Buffalo does.  Bills defense has an off week and the New York Jets play a better 4th quarter this time around.  Jets playmakers and aggressive defense makes the difference in the Meadowlands.  Like young Bills team, though I think Jets get off the snide here.

SD (-10) over Hou.
Chargers are on a roll and Texans have been horrible since Andre Johnson went down.  Tomlinson and the defense are stepping their play up and San Diego wins this one by at least 21.  Chargers look like last year’s squad and they get better this week.

TB (+2) over Jax.
Tampa Bucs show last week was an aberration and they play better defense and exectue on offense.  Jacksonville does have run advantage but Tampa is nearly flawless at home and they play big in this contest.  Bucs make sure they attack on offense early and get turnovers on defense and follow Colts blueprint.  Tough game to choose because both teams are evenly matched…

N.O. (-3) over SF
Saints are much better than 49ers on offense and the defensive match-up is not much of a big margin as it is on offense.  Saints play this game very aggressive and show themselves to be a team ready to take over their division.  Seems like Saints play much better on the road nowadays.

Wash. (+17) over NE
Patriots were “SICK” last week and destroyed Miami and could’ve put up 63-70 points if they wanted to.  I knew that was a bad pick on my part last week and I give all credit to ’em, but I have to go with a tough ‘Skins defense and the ball control offense they have.  Washington has a very good secondary (best they have faced yet) and a solid LB group and I expect them to hang w/ ’em and possibly keep the score within range by 7 pts.

Denv. (-3) over GB
Denver is back to playing good football at home and their defense wins ’em this one.  Cutler will have a great game and the team will get boost from home crowd and win by 10.  Denver plays with big T.O.P. advantage and jumps out to early headstart with a big lead.
