The Buffalo Bills return to Monday Night after a 13 year hiatus was a defensive masterpiece. The Dallas Cowboys who must have been looking ahead towards a
showdown with undefeated New England didn’t send that memo to the Bills Defense as they terrorized Tony Romo and picked him off 5 times in the first half 2 of
those were turned into touchdown returns as underdog Buffalo blew a 11-point 4th quarter lead and as time expired Nick Folk hit a field goal twice from 53 yards
out to keep the Cowboys undefeated and setup the Pats vs Cowboys showdown next week.
The Cowboys playing in the ultimate trap game underestimated the injury plagued Buffalo defense. One thing was for certain more than AROD ever donning a
Yankees jersey ever again, was that the Bills were not going to let Dallas leave Buffalo undefeated. The Buffalo offense outside of a field goal didn’t get much going in the first half. It seemed like a reunion of sorts as many former Bills and Cowboys players from their 1990’s Super Bowl battles were in attendance as a sea of white towels cheered on the Bills throughout the entire night.
The Cowboys started off the second half by driving the ball down the field and having their way with the Bills D. However in the Red Zone the Bills stood firm as they forced another field goal and the Cowboys cut the lead to 17-13.
That’s when the Bills special teams and Terrence McGee showed his 4.3 speed on the ensuing kick off as he raced 103 yards and sent the Rich Stadium crowd and all the Cowboy haters into euphoric pandemonium. The Bills at this point took a commanding 24-13 lead as the NFC’s #1 offense took the field.
Tony Romo had all night to throw as some catches were either dropped or the receiver went out of bounds to thwart any chances of a Cowboy comeback. Brian Moorman was a beast tonight in the punting game. He ran for a first down on the Bills first possession but he made some great punts which kept the Dallas offense on their heels with awful field possession.
As the clock wound down late in the 3rd quarter Romo improvised and he hit his secondary receivers on a 72-yard drive which ended the 3rd quarter. The
Cowboys on 3rd and 9 to start the fourth quarter, a Romo to Witten pass went incomplete as the Bills had a linebacker shadowing Romo all night. The Bills stopped
the Cowboys again in the red zone and Nick Folk hit his 3rd field goal of the night to cut the lead to 24-16. One more made field goal by Nick and I lose my fantasy football game by 1.
The Cowboys defense really shut down the run game of the Bills and after another Buffalo punt the Cowboys Romo began hitting the backs out of the backfield.
As the Cowboys marched down the field Romo lost the ball running for a first down as Aaron Schobel poked it out of Romo’s hands giving the Bills pretty good field possession at the 48-yard line.
Rookie quarterback Trent Edwards looking like a seasoned veteran made the right calls on offense and his rookie running back sidekick Marshawn Lynch broke one for 14 yards as the Bills offense got into the red zone for the first time in the second half. On 3rd and 8 from the 11, Edwards pass was tipped and intercepted by Terence Newman who returned it 70 yards fumbled but the ball was recovered by Dallas on the Bills 17-yard line with 6:21 to play in regulation. Lee Evans ran down Terence Newman to save a potential touchdown by Dallas.
On second down that Lee Evans play setup Romo’s 5th interception of the night as Jon DiGiorgio returned it out of the end zone for 37 yards. The Cowboys who were tied for 1st coming into Buffalo with a turnover margin of +7 turned the ball over 5 times to Buffalo. The Cowboys defense went 3 and out as they got Romo and the Boys the ball back one last time with 3:45 to play.
Terrence Maghee missed opportunity at a 6th Romo interception before the 2 minute warning gave the Cowboys new life as Romo’s 2 minute drill got the Cowboys down to the 4-yard line with 24 seconds left to play in regulation. Romo then hit Patrick Crayton for a 4-yard touchdown with 20 seconds to go.
The Cowboys went for 2 points and Jabarri Greer who was the Defesnive Player of the week after the Jets win, stripped it away from Terrell Owens in the corner
of the endzone. On the ensuing kick off the Cowboys recovered an onside kick with 18 seconds left and no timeouts left at the Bills 47-yard line.
A Terrell Owens reception was overturned as he trapped the ball as Tony Romo spiked the ball with 1 second left to set up a field goal. The ball was placed back at the 47 yard line and 13 seconds were put back on the clock. Romo hit Barber for 5 yards with 7 seconds to go and on 3rd and 6 Romo hit Patrick Crayton for a short pass.
Dick Jauron called a timeout as Nick Folk connected on a 53-yard field goal twice to send Buffalo home with a loss, and I lost my fantasy game as time expired.
