Saints Woes Continue; McAllister Done for Remainder of 07 Season

McAllister done

Things have been a disaster for the 2007 Saints thus far, and on Tuesday things got worse as the teams worst fears came true.  Running back Deuce McAllister is gone for the remainder of the 2007 season.  McAllister tore his left ACL in Monday night’s difficult to watch 31-14 loss to the Titans at the SuperDome.  “I didn’t want to believe, but just taking that walk to the locker room you could feel it just kind of giving way a little bit,” he said. `And that was just kind of reminiscent of how the other one felt.” That “other one” was when McAllister was injured back in the 2005 season, that time tearing his right ACL.

McAllister was injured when he caught a screen pass in the second quarter from QB Drew Brees.  McAllister will get  reconstructive knee surgery, followed by a long, painful rehab that will likely last until close to when 08 training camp starts.  “Obviously, the questions: Will you ever be the same? Will you ever be the back that you once were? Those are the different thoughts that obviously run through your mind as a player,” McAllister said. “We’ll see how the surgery goes and we’ll go from there.”

The team will now more than ever realy on second-year back Reggie Bush, who so far in 2007 has not lived up to the hype.  Bush has rushed for just 65 yards on 22 carries, a 3 yards per carry average.  Last season Bush ran for 565 yards and six touchdowns and put up a 3.6 yards per carry average.  He also so far in 07 caught 16 passes for a poor 70 yards.  Last season he caught 88 passes for 742 yards and two scores.  Desperate to do anything, look for the Saints to try to throw the ball even more now, despite the issues that Brees has had, as Monday night vs Tennessee he threw four interceptions.
