A lot has been made about some of the Giants defensive players not speaking to the media this past week, fighting back after many articles went after how the “D” gave up 80 points in two game. Veteran linebacker Antonio Pierce broke the quiet tone in the locker room Thursday, taking his shot at the media and all the slamming of the Giants defense. “No questions about the defense today. You know what? I was actually looking for applications from some guys who know anything about how to play defense,” Pierce said. “If there’s anybody here. … I guess y’all have all the X’s and O’s and answers for us and you know what our problem is. Everybody knows what our defense runs, so we’re asking the media and the fans: If you can please help out the New York Giants defense, we’d gladly appreciate it. Fan mail can be sent to Giants.com.”
Another player that decided to speak out Thursday was Michael Strahan, who has been like Casper the Invisable Ghost this season, being as quiet as a field mouse through two games. Strahan yelled about a TV report that said the Giants didn’t seem all that upset they were getting blown out in the second half vs the Packers. “That’s crap!” Strahan said. “It’s just so disappointing to me when you guys have me come out here to answer questions, you ask stuff that’s just … That’s crap.”
Maybe both Strahan and Pierce should start answering the real questions that Giants fans want to know – is this teams defense going to show up this season? The team has another tough task at hand this Sunday as they play at the 2-0 Washington Redskins, who are riding high after a home win vs the Dolphins and a big Monday night road win at Philly. If the Giants decide to sleep walk again this week on the defensive side Sunday, you can expect another round of outbursts next week in the teams locker room from the defensive players who are showing a lot more bark than bite.
