On Tuesday, Prosecutors formally charged O.J. Simpson with seven felonies in connection with an alleged armed robbery of sports memorabilia at a Hotel in Las Vegas. Simpson is behind held without bail in a Las Vegas jail on charges of Robbery with a deadly weapon, Burglary with a firearm, Assault with a deadly weapon, Coercion with use of a deadly weapon, Conspiracy to commit robbery, Conspiracy to commit kidnapping, Conspiracy to commit a crime and finally First degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon. If convicted of the First degree kidnapping charge Simpson could spend the rest of his life in prison.
According to the charges, Simpson and three accomplices entered the hotel room under the pretext that they were there to negotiate a deal for the memorabilia. Once in the room, one of Simpson’s accomplices pulled a gun and Simpson is alleged to have stopped one of the victims from calling 911 on a cell phone by physically taking the phone out of the victim’s hands.
Simpson insists he was not armed and he went to the hotel room simply to retrieve property that had been stolen from him. Simpson’s lawyer is not happy with the fact that Simpson is being held without bail saying, “If it was anyone other than O.J. Simpson, he would have been released by now.”
