It is common knowledge that the New England Patriots and New York Jets do not like each other. Not a big deal, except that perhaps their already-tenuous relationship has taken a turn for the worse. According to Dan Leberfeld of Scout.com and a source at the Meadowlands, a credentialed member of the Patriots was spotted shooting pictures near the Jets’ bench during the Patriots-Jets game on Sunday.
When questioned by Jets head of security Steve Yarnell about the incident, the unnamed cameraman stated to Yarnell that the Patriots authorized him to do this. The same individual was accused by Yarnell of shooting the Jets’ signals that were being sent by the coaches from the sidelines. The Meadowlands source said that the National Football League has been notified of this accusation.
If proven to be true, the Patriots would be subject to some serious punishment from the league offices. I cannot recall anything of this magnitude ever happening in the league in recent memory; that’s not to say it hasn’t happened, but I cannot recall any transgressions of this scope ever goin on. What I do know is this – a team shouldn’t have to stoop to tricxks such as this to gain a competitive edge against their opponent(s).
