Palmer’s 2 TD’s, late defensive stand propels Cincinnati past Baltimore 27-20

Chad JohnsonThe game tonight between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens resembled a MASH unit more than a football field, based on the casualties throughout the game. Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer threw two touchdowns and the Bengals defense stopped the Ravens near the goal line in a thrilling 27-20 victory at Paul Brown Stadium.

While the game itself was entertaining, players from both sides were dropping like flies. Ravens QB Steve McNair strained his groin in the 4th quarter; the Bengals also briefly lost kicker Shayne Graham. By the 2nd quarter alone, 3 Bengals linesmen were sidelined. As far as the game was concerned, Palmer went 20-32 for 194 yards and 2 TD’s. Bengals WR’s Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh both scored a TD. The Ravens’ Steve McNair went 20-for-34 for 203 yards and an interception, before giving way to reserve QB Kyle Boller because of a strained groin. Ravens RB Willis McGahee rushed for 77 yards on 19 carries.

The Bengals put up a goal-line stand very late in the game to preserve the victory. The Ravens contributed to their own demise, turning the ball over 6 times. The 1-0 Bengals next play on September 16, when they visit Cleveland Browns Stadium to face the 0-1 Clevelend Browns. The 0-1 Ravens, also on September 16, play the visiting 0-1 New York Jets.
