This game, believe it or not, will actually be fun to watch. The Detroit Lions new and improved (?) offense against the Oakland Raiders defense. I’m not convinced that this will be a shootout, but it should be entertaining nonetheless. Some things to look for:
Bad news for the Lions this week – RB Kevin Jones will not play this week, leaving the running workload to Tatum Bell. What this means is that quarterback Jon Kitna will more than likely throw at least 40 passes, which this week isn’t necessarily a good thing as the Lions’ offensive line really isn’t that good. Not to mention the fact that Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp should be able to exploit that weakness while he’s out on the field.
I don’t expect the Lions’ Calvin Johnson to really be much of a factor this week as the Raiders’ secondary is one of the top ones in the league. Fortunately for Oakland, their starting QB this week, Josh McCown, doesn’t have to be Peyton Manning. The Raiders defense will make his job easier. But at the same time, McCown will have to watch his back as the reserve QB, Daunte Culpepper, could very easily start next week. In any case, the Raiders should prevail in this game. I never thought I’d see the day when I’d say this: Oakland Raiders, 1-0.
