Week 1, Kansas City at Houston

Kansas City ChiefsHouston Texans The Houston Texans fans at Reliant may just have reason for optimism this week as they face the Kansas City Chiefs. This matchup has all of the makings of an upset (although I’m not convinced that a win this week by the Texans would qualify as an upset), as the Chiefs have issues to deal with. Why do I think the Texans pull out the win today at Reliant? Here’s why:

Chiefs running back Larry Johnson had a whopping three carries this preseason. Team head coach Herm Edwards claims he wants to “limit” LJ to around 20 carries or so. At least this week, I expect the Texans’ run defense to man-up and limit Johnson to around 70 yards with zero touchdowns. Also, consider this: The Chiefs QB is Damon Huard. I also like the Texans’ secondary against Huard this week.

Meanwhile, I think that Texans QB Matt Schaub will do fine against the Chiefs’ secondary; even Chiefs CB Ty Law can’t save the Chiefs. Texans RB Ahman Green should get around 20-23 carries, 80-85 yards and a touchdown, with some welcome relief from RB Ron Dayne. And don’t overlook Texans return specialist/WR Jacoby Jones – he is the real deal. A close game for the most part, but the Texans should win this one.
