The Staff at NFL Gridiron Gab will be teaming up to pick the NFL Games this season, and here with go with our six staff members giving their views and predictions for the Monday Night games of Week one of the NFL season:
Baltimore at Cincinnati (-2.5)
Blake Kelley: Baltimore 31 Cincinnati 14 – Ravens show how good they are on defense and the offense surprises many with a huge game on the ground and McNair is very good through the air.
Russell Loede: Baltimore 17 Cincinnati 6 – Baltimore stifles a strong Carson Palmer-led passing attack. Ed Reed makes three picks and Ray Lewis returns a fumble back for six. McGahee rushes ball 40 times for 54 yards. Chris Henry’s stat line: 4 chants of “WHO-DEY”, 3 hits (chronic), 2 catches (brewskies), and 1 brawl (fight), and a bleacher seat next to his “homies” (Adam Jones, Tank Johnson, and Mike Vick) – PRICELESS.
Jeff Sack: Baltimore 21 Cincinnati 14 – What looked like a franchise turn around a couple of seasons back has turned into Team Dysfunction Willis McGahee starts off season on the right foot.
Stephen Rhodes: Baltimore 17, Cincinnati 13 – The Ravens D will totally dominate the Bengals; I expect Willis McGahee to rush for around 90 yards and on Mondaya TD. Baltimore to beat the spread.
Jim Dubenetzky: Baltimore 20 Cincinnati 17 – The Ravens Defense will do enough to keep the game in reach for McNair and McGahee.
Matt Loede: Cincinnati 23 Baltimore 14 – The Bengals start a run at the AFC North, while the Ravens offense will be slow to start, and the defense will give up a few big plays here.
Arizona at San Francisco (-3)
Blake Kelley: Arizona 28 San Francisco 13 – Arizona is better then San Fran’s defense and their offense is not good enough to out score the Cardinals offense.
Russell Loede: Arizona 34 San Francisco 18 – Leinart goes for 425 and 3 touchdowns to WR Anquan Boldin. Edge runs past the century-mark and makes his own blocks on his way to each gain. One play he breaks 18 tackles, picks up 10 “pancakes”, and gains 6 yards. Matt Leinart offers help to o-line, plays 3 snaps at OG. Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice all in attendance. Ken Whisenhut gets the infamous “Gatorade Bath”. Denny Green found studying the Chicago Bears’ game to see what went wrong and wants a second chance as coach (finds why team lost – Rackers’ missed the GW FG, along with his BAD Coaching, says, “I thought who I thought I was, I might as well crown myself for such a “bravo” job.”). Brent Jones calls game with Monday Nite crew, at one point calls for Ronnie Lott to put on the red & gold to help hapless defense vs. Leinart. Antonio Bryant sighting earlier in the week: practicing with Jackie Smith on hands, during private workout for a couple of CFL teams and the Minnesota Vikings, vows to make a team’s practice squad by end of the season.
Jeff Sack: San Francisco 24 Arizona 20 – New coach Ken Whisenhunt, and QB Matt Leinart will eventually find some glory this year, not this early though.
Stephen Rhodes: San Francisco 27 Arizona 20 – The 49ers’ Frank Gore will expose the Cards’ run defense this Monday for their first victory this season. The 49ers to cover and then some.
Jim Dubenetzky: Arizona 24 San Francisco 21 – Ken Whisenhunt will show off an surprisingly impressive O-line that leads them to victory.
Matt Loede: San Francisco 23 Arizona 14 – The 9’ers will use Frank Gore early and often, and the Cards will start slow under new coach Ken Whisenhunt.
