Former Steelers head coach is now in the business of making predictions, and he is not being very kind to his former team. Cowher, now a studio analyst for CBS Sports, is stating that the Steelers will finish 3rd in the AFC North, behind both the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. The prediction is not exactly going over very well in the Steelers locker room, where offensive team captain Hines Ward found the pick rather funny.
“It’s kind of funny how he was in here a year ago and next thing you know he’s predicting us to finish third,” Ward said. “I don’t make anything of it He’s just doing the media job. I don’t know if he really believes it. To let him tell it, he’d probably say he’s helping us out.”
Maybe the 3rd place prediction will give the Steelers motivation. After all, they followed up a Super Bowl season with a 2-6 start last year, before finally rallying to wrap up the year at .500 at 8-8. As for new Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, he also is playing off the prediction by Cowher. “It’s really kind of irrelevant,” Tomlin said. “The only people who remember them are the ones who got them right.”
As for if Cowher will return to coaching next season, current Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is making a rather bold prediction of where “The Chin” will be next season on opening day. “Only he could tell you that,” Roethlisberger said. “Honestly – and I can only talk for a few of the players here – we joke around and say that (Cleveland) could be his No. 1 spot.”
