Staff’s Pick for Thursday Night’s Saints vs Colts Opener

Addai

The Staff at NFL Gridiron Gab will be teaming up to pick the NFL Games this season, and we start our picks with Thursday Night’s Opener with the Saints at the Colts. Below is our selections for the opener.

New Orleans at Indianapolis (-5)

Steve Rhodes: Indianapolis 27 New Orleans 24 – The Colts and Saints will score points but I don’t see it as being the Wild West shootout that people are looking for. The Colts’ secondary will be the savior in a very close game.

Jeff Sack: New Orleans 34 Indianapolis 31 – An inexperienced offensive line has Manning tying to do too much, Colts defense not strong enough to stop Saints who are trying to revive a city and get to the Super Bowl.

Jim Dubenetzky: New Orleans 31 Indianapolis 30 – The fired up Saints will beat the hungover Colts win in a shoot out.

Blake Kelley: Indianapolis 30 New Orleans 21 – Indy wins this game due to their balanced attack on offense and New Orleans Lack of a secondary. New Orleans will still put up a good chunk of points on the board but Drew Brees is no Peyton Manning and it will show in this game.

Matt Loede: Indianapolis 27 New Orleans 23 – Solid back and forth opener. The Colts offense will have it’s way with the Saints, but look for the Saints to go blow to blow until a late FG wins it for the Colts.

Russ Loede: Indianapolis 35 New Orleans 24 – High-Scoring affair will be a match-up that will be won by Indy because their secondary will win the battle (unexpectedly); stifling Saints receivers, keeping Brees from doing his thing early on (scores late will make the final outcome closer than it really is). Manning is at home (picking apart the D with audibles/adjustments), Addai will have a field day, and I expect the WR’s to take advantage of a crystal clear mismatch against the N.O. pass defense. TE Dallas Clark will have a huge game, overmatching any Saints LB that you can name, and the Colts will me too much on defense (that’s right), and offense (of course – sorry Will Smith), for a Saints team that will struggle to keep up with the high-flying attack (weapons galore) in the loud, RCA Dome.

Staff Overall Predicts: Colts 30 Saints 26.1

I think the Colts D is too depleted to contain the Saints O. Plus, the Saints play an agressive style of defense that gives the Colts some trouble. You can read our take on this week’s “Big Game” at http://www.thebigbiggame.wordpress.com
