One week after the Michael Vick apology has come and gone, the Humane Society of the United States is releasing info stating that Vick’s speech following pleading guilty to dogfighting charges was scripted, and they have the Falcons QB’s hand written notes to prove it. Many felt that Vick gave the speech off the cuff, as he stated to the media – “I’m not a public speaker.” Now the outrage may hit the fan again if it’s proven, which it appears it is, that he had notes for the speech and was not as sincere as originally believed.
The Humane Society state that the notes read as follows: (you can see the pic up top as well)
1. Apologize for what I’ve done
2. Apologize Commissioner, AB, Petrino, ashamed disappointed
3. Young kids I acted immature
4. Forgiveness & understanding
5. Take full responsibility for my actions
6. We all make mistakes I’ve made mistakes in judgment / Dogs have suffered
Here’s another part of the saga – the notes Vick wrote are being sold on EBay with the following description: “Proceeds from this auction will benefit The Humane Society of the United States’ efforts to end dogfighting and other forms of animal cruelty by contributing to the Animal Cruelty Response and Reward Fund.
This sheet of paper was discarded at the podium after Michael Vick’s apology on August 28th, 2007 at the Omni Hotel in Richmond. Found by an HSUS employee, it appears to be Vick’s own talking points from his first public statement after his guilty plea for crimes related to dogfighting.
Ironically, Vick never got to the last three words, “dogs have suffered”, which had clearly been added as an afterthought.
This piece of memorabilia culminates the nation’s most notorious celebrity cruelty case. It is a symbol of the downfall of a superstar’s career but also of the historical event that brought light to the cruel and illegal business of dogfighting in America.”
As of 8pm Tuesday night, the high bid was up to just over $1000, and there was over 1200 views. If you are interested in having a piece of history – here is the link: Vick’s notes on Ebay…the item has just under 9 days left till it will go to the highest bidder.
