Pit Bulls Seized From Vick Home Face Claim Deadline

Dogs siezed in Vick case may be destroyed

Today is the day 53 pit bulls seized from Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick’s Virginia home must be claimed before facing euthanization.  WAVY-TV reports the U.S. Attorney’s office in Richmond, Virginia set today as the deadline for someone to claim the animals, all of which are vicious trained fighters.  If nobody claims ownership, a Federal Judge will decide whether to sell the dogs or to give them lethal injections.  The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it supports euthanizing the animals.  They say the pit bulls have been trained to kill and can not be trusted around other animals.

If these dogs are euthanized, I would certainly expect that the charges would be changed against Mr. Vick and his partners. Just because they wouldn’t be the ones actually killing these 53 dogs, these dogs would be dying as a direct result of Mr. Vick’s and his partners’ actions. The count goes from 8 to 61 dogs killed because of these four men. One dog being killed was one too many already; now 61…? They need to be held accountable for every single life they’ve taken or caused to be taken, which will also serve in sending a clear message to any person(s) who is already involved in dog fighting or considering participation in this horrific venture.
