Is it possible that the Bears could be better in 2007? You can certainly make a good a good argument to that end. They certainly will not sneak up on anyone this year, but they are bringing basically the same unit back with only one key loss and upgrades in other key positions.
(S)Chris Harris, (DT)Ian Scott, (DT)Tank Johnson, (CB)Dante Wesley, (DT)Alfonso Boone.
Free Agents:(DT)Anthony Adams, (DT)Darwin Walker,(S) Adam Archuletta.
Draftpicks: (CB)Trumaine Mcbride, (DE)Dan Bazuin, (LB)Michael Okwo, (CB)Corey Graham, (S)Kevin Payne.
Darwin Walker is a definite upgrade over Tank Johnson, Free agent Anthony Adams and Dusty Dvoracek coming back from injury add depth to an area of concern just 6 weeks ago. Kevin Payne and Daniael Manning are as capable as Chris Harris and maybe won’t have the mental lapses that Harris had (See Reggie Wayne’s TD catch in the Super Bowl).
I believe he was another Mike green waiting to happen and the Bears Staff seems to agree and moved on without him more quickly than with Green. The defense has remained the same or has upgraded in each position. I look for them to be even more consistent in 2007.
With Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman locked up for the future, Danieal Manning in his second year and a healthy Mike Brown back and an added veteran safety in Archuletta and Ricky Manning Jr. returning as the Nickel back the secondary is essentially the same save Archuletta. The line backing corps is fully intact with the Briggs signing his franchise contract and added depth with 3rd round Pick Michael Okwo.
This defense has the opportunity to be even better than last years. I see more pressure being caused by the front four with
Free Agents: (FB)Obafemi Ayenbedejo, (FB) Jon Goldsberry
Draft Picks: (TE)Greg Olsen, (RB)Garret Wolfe, (G/C)Josh Beekman, (T)Aaron Brant
The Bears are basically the same team as last year accept for Thomas Jones who is the biggest loss of the off-season. It is time for Cedric Benson to show why he was a first rounder and Adrian Peterson will be a excellent second option. The Bears added depth with the explosive yet undersized Garret Wolfe to the Running game as well. The offensive line brings back all the Starters and is now a little Deeper with the addition of (G/C)Josh Beekman. The addition of the best Tight end in the draft in Greg Olsen and switching Devin Hester from defense to Offense made the Offense much more explosive and give Rex Grossman more options on offense. Grossman will get his second full season and the opportunity to prove if He is the quarterback of the future.
All the Pieces are in place the stage is set for the Bears to go to the Big dance again, but this time come home with the hardware.
