In a move that should keep Marc Bulger a Ram player for life, the team and quarterback finally agreed on a deal Friday that will pay him $65 million over the next six years. The deal also includes $27 million guaranteed. Bulger practiced with his team on Friday as his agent, Tom Condon and the team wrapped up all the “p’s” and “q’s” of the deal. “I’m entering my seventh season here, and to know that I can finish my career here in St. Louis (is great). I love living here. I call it home now. Playing for Coach Linehan has been great.”
“I think we all win. All the people associated with the Rams feel good about seeing No. 10 out there today starting the first practice.” Rams coach Scott Linehan said It’s what we expected and anticipated.” Bulger is one of six quarterbacks that makes at least $10 mil per season. “He’ll be in the very upper echelon of quarterbacks,” said Tom Condon, Bulger’s agent.
The QB was in the final year of a four-year, $19.1 million contract with a salary of about $4 million for this year. “The whole time we knew it was going to get done, it was just a matter of logistics,” Bulger said. “The numbers are one thing. It’s huge. The first contract was a life-changer and this is a life-changer.” Bulger had put out feelers that he was going to hold out, and he did miss a meeting on Thursday, but all along made it seem like this deal would get done.
Last season Bulger had a career season that made the team anxious to get a deal done before he reached free agency at the end of 2007. He threw for 4301 yards and 24 touchdowns with just 8 interceptions. He had a QB rating of 92.9. For his career, Bulger has a QB rating of 91.3, with 95 touchdowns with 59 interceptions.
