The Dolphins tough offseason of arrests continued early on Saturday morning, as top wide receiver Chris Chambers was arrested in Charlotte on charges of driving while impaired and speeding. Chambers was arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police around 2:30 a.m. He faces charges of driving while impaired, speeding, and reckless driving. He made bond and was released after posting $1,750. “We recently learned about this and are in the process of gathering more information,” Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said.
Chambers is the top wide out for the Dolphins, and according to reports in six seasons has never had any legal trouble. Dolphins players are not required to report to camp until July 27th, and are currently off from any team functions. It is the second time in three weeks a Dolphins player has been in trouble and the third player this offseason to be arrested. First there was DT Fred Evans, who was released from the team after being arrested twice in three months. New linebacker Joey Porter, who came to the Dolphins in early March, was arrested for punching Bengals tackle Levi Jones in a Las Vegas casino in March.
Since it is the first arrest of any kind for Chambers, it’s pretty unlikely that anything will be done to him. More likely any sort of punishment will be handed down on Porter. As far as Chambers goes, likley this will be a slap on the wrist, and nothing more.
