Once again Larry Johnson, his contract, and his status with the Chiefs is in question, and now a source says that another team is keeping a keen eye on what is going on with the franchise running back. That team according to WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee is the Green Bay Packers. Seems that the Pack are watching carefully the ebbs and flows of the talks between the Chiefs and Johnson, and if talks break down, the Pack may just jump on the bandwagon as one of the teams that want a piece of the backs future.
Another piece of the story stems from former Packers linebacker George Koonce, who said a few weeks ago that after a front office meeting in which he was looking to get a job with the team, that the Pack may be making a big move to get an offensive player. Could that player be Johnson? Of course everyone knows that Johnson is set to make $1.7 mil this year with the Chiefs, and there has been talk of a holdout if a new deal does not get done. If the Pack can come up with a nice sized deal, L.J. may be theres for the taking.
What would the Chiefs want? Some have said that the Chiefs would take as low as a 3rd round choice for Johnson, which I can’t see happening, but you never can tell. If G.M. Carl Peterson, the Pack and Johnson’s agent can all be made happy, you never know, Johnson could be a cheesehead by the time camp gets rolling around in a few weeks.
