Jeff George Wants to Play For the Raiders

Jeff George was the first pick in the 1990 NFL draft and has been on the roster of 7 different NFL clubs. He has a career record of 46-78. George has passed for 27,602 yards, 154 touchdowns and 113 interceptions. His final stint in the league only lasted two games with the Redskins in the 2001 season, he was the starter and led the Redskins to an 0-2 record being outscored 67-3. After going 23 of 42 with no touchdowns and 3 interceptions he was cut and hasn’t thrown a pass in the NFL since. He has signed with Seattle, Chicago and Oakland since 2001 but never made it onto the field.

Today on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access George declared that wanted another shot in the NFL. He analyzed the Raiders quarterback situation and said Jamarcus Russell needs a veteran quarterback to come in and help him learn the NFL game. After his comments analyst Terrell Davis asked, “It sounds like you’re campaigning?” George responded, “I am campaigning” and then continued to say again how Russell needs any veteran to sign with the Raiders. NFL Total Access Host Rich Eisen then asked, “Why do you think you’re not done, Jeff?”

George responded, “I can still play, I still have the drive and the adrenaline and I know that I can help the team out and lets just face it there’s not a lot of good quarterbacks out in the league right now, in my opinion?” George said out of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL 50% are good but the other half are young and could develop and that overall the NFL lacks veteran leadership at the quarterback  position.

Later in the show, George threw passes outside in the parking lot and inside the studio. He threw completions to the upper level of the parking garage and looked solid when throwing from longer distances. But he tied with Host Rich Eisen going 1 for 3 while trying to throw balls into a large garbage can that was set up inside the studio. All
in all he didn’t impressive at all, but he that wasn’t his selling point. He was stressing the fact that he can provide veteran leadership and help younger players develop.

George desperately wants another shot in the league and I don’t think he’ll mind if he doesn’t play he just wants to wear the uniform and a headset. Maybe he could help Jamarcus Russell be an NFL quarterback.
