Titans and Brown Both Talking About a Return

With the uncertain status of LenDale White, the Tennessee Titans may think more about bringing former running back Chris Brown back to the team. Brown had six 100-yard games with the team back in 2004, but played in just five games a season ago and by the time it was over was a distant third on the teams depth chart at running back. Brown saw the writing on the wall heading into last season, as he went back and forth with team officials asking for them to trade him. They did not, and Brown had mostly a wasted 2006 year.

Now though, Brown says he is back and has something to prove, and while he currently is a man without a team, he would like to get back with the Titans and show them he is better than a guy sitting third on a depth chart. “I think people have forgotten about me after what happened last year,” Brown said to the Tennessean. “In my mind, I have a lot to prove to a lot of people. Everything that’s happened, it’s just fuel to my fire. A lot of people don’t think I can still do it. But I still have it in my eyes. I can still play at a high level in this league, and wherever I land, I’ll show up with a big chip on my shoulder.”

The Titans may need him back, as White has come into practices this spring both out of shape and unmotivated according to sources. Rookie Chris Henry is not ready to be an every down back with the Titans, meaning they are in a tough spot right now as they try to surround second-year QB Vince Young with talent around him. The Titans are well aware that Brown is out there, and GM Mike Reinfeldt said this past week that they would like him back if they can come to a deal. “We would still like him back, and I think deep down he would still like to be back here,” Reinfeldt said. “It is probably fair to say we both think this would be a good match, but the compensation is still the issue.”

There are a couple other teams out there that are thinking about bringing in Brown. They include the Pats, Bears, Colts, and Packers. While the Titans remain as the number one choice for Brown, it remains to be seen if he and Titans can come to a deal. Right now as things stand though, the Titans may need Brown even more than he needs them, and for Brown, that is a good position to be in.

I’ve always liked Chris Brown. I remember at least one of his 100+ yard games he grabbed 100 yard before half time. He was always considered ‘injury prone.’ But it was a single recurrent injury each year that he rushed back from – never gave himself a chance to heal. I believe that he has plenty left and would love to see him return.

I’m amazed that Chris would even consider coming back to Tennessee after how he was treated. I think the guy still has allot to give and boy does Tennessee need him.
