Once Again the Pro Bowl A Waste of Time

Exactly the reason why the Pro Bowl is the worst idea in the Naional Football Leauge once again took place on Saturday night in Hawaii, as a key player suffered a somewhat serious injury.  Saints QB Drew Brees disclocted his left elbow in the second series of the game for the NFC, and while in the long run it is not expected to be too serious, the injury should not have taken place.  Why the league insists on playing this game in beyond me.  The game is a waste of time, most of the true best players in the league simply skip it, and all the other top players put themsleves at risk by just trying to make it through without getting hurt.

Most true fans don’t watch the game, and more don’t even know when the game was.  Or the network that it was on for that matter.  It use to be a staple that the game was broadcast on ABC the Sunday after the Super Bowl, but now the game has shifted networks more than once, and now instead of it being on Sunday its on Saturday.  Why that it is anyone’s guess.  Most of the players from the champion Colts did not show up in Hawaii till Wednesday or Thursday.  The last thing they wanted to have to do after celebrating a Super Bowl title was play a game that means nothing.

Football is a sport that should always be played at full speed, and to watch most of the players go at it half way is an insult.  The league should just flat out end the Pro Bowl.  Give those that get voted as Pro Bowl players a little extra money (that’s the other reason they play the worthless game), and send them off to have a nice offseason as they get set for mini-camps.  Keep the true spirit of the game as is, forget about the Pro Bowl and all the stupid things that go along with it.
