NFL Week 14 Predictions

Week 14 of the season is here, and with it things are getting very tight in and around the National Football League. Last week I went 9-7, and won on Thursday night bringing my yearly total to 123-72. I am sorry that the picks did not get posted on Friday, but I was unable to do them due to a death in the family. With that, this weeks picks may not be as complete as I would like, but I will share some thoughts as to what I am thinking on the games. Here goes:Atlanta at Tampa Bay – The Falcons are one of those bunched up 6-6 teams looking for a wild card spot in the NFC. The Bucs are just bad, as last week they were one play away from being shut out in Pittsburgh. With the Bucs having basically given up on the season, and the Falcons season at stake, I think they do enough to get it done. Atlanta 24 Tampa Bay 13

Baltimore at Kansas City – A HUGE game in terms of the AFC at these two teams trying to either get in the playoffs, or solidify their place in it. The Ravens lost a week ago Thursday, and are stinging from that. The Chiefs last Sunday could not tackle, and that and some awful defense in the last quarter and OT cost them an easy game in Cleveland. The Ravens are one game out of clinching the AFC North, and the Chiefs are one of 5 teams that are 7-5 in the AFC. The Ravens have to step up here, and they have won in tough places already. I think the Ravens sneak one out here. Baltimore 17 Kansas City 14

Indianapolis at Jacksonville – The Jags are a much different team at home, while the Colts cracks continue to develop on defesne since they can’t stop the run. Clearly the Colts are starting to panic with the thought of having to score 35 in the playoffs to win. They also see home field slipping away as well. At 5-1 at home, look for a lot of running from the Jags, and the Colts defense to struggle once again and get outscored. Jacksonville 24 Indianapolis 17

Minnesota at Detroit – The Vikings had such promise at the start of the season, and got off to a hot start, only to now be 5-7 and playing out the stretch. The Lions are still awful, at 2-10 also want to warm the bus and go home for the winter. Indoors feels like a home game for the Vikings, and as the better team I think they will get it done. Minnesota 20 Detroit 17

New England at Miami – The Dolphins were on that same type of roll like last season until they lost at home last week to the Jags. New England had their hands full with Detroit, but were able to pull it out in the fourth quarter. While the Pats are still a good team at 9-3 and 5-0 on the road, I think we’re looking at one and out for them in the playoffs. They will though come to Miami and be able to handle the pesky fins. New England 27 Miami 20

New York Giants at Carolina – All or nothing in this game, as the team that loses can start looking forward to 2007. I have been on this kick of picking against the Giants for the last few weeks, and rightfully so since they have been losing week after week. This week they fall to under .500 at 6-7, as the Panthers will run the ball and use defense to stop the Giants and continue the talk of Tom Coughlin being shown the door at the end of the season. Carolina 23 NY Giants 17

Oakland at Cincinnati – The Bengals continue to play better, and this week vs the Raiders should be no different. Oakland is a bad team that sorely needs to end 2006 and start on 07. Look for the Bengals offense to put on a show and score the most points in the league at home this week. Cincinnati 41 Oakand 21

Philadelphia at Washington – The Eagles showed some heart in taking out the Panthers on Monday night, and will have to duplicate that same effort this week on the road. Jeff Garcia is a very streaky QB, and can make a big play, then turn the ball right over. That’s Jeff. On the road, I think that the Skins are going to find a way to grind out some yards and gain a big rival win. Washington 17 Philadelphia 13

Tennessee at Houston – The Titans are the feel good story of the year in the AFC. Last week a 60-yard field goal clinched a home win over the Colts, and continued to show the vast improvement in this team. This week at 5-7, they head to Houston to play the Texans. Houston at 4-8 is 2-3 at home, and still has plenty of trouble spots, despite a win last week in Oakalnd. I think that the Titans are going to end the year .500, so they win this one on the road. Tenessee 21 Houston 14

Green Bay at San Francisco – The 49’ers were beaten up by the Saints last week, and any dreams of making a playoff run is gone. The Packers are 4-8, and have played better on the road (3-3) than at home (1-4). The Pack has a knack of finding ways to win on the road, so I think they take this one on the Bay. Green Bay 27 San Francisco 17

Seattle at Arizona – The 3-9 Cardinals played their best game of the year last week in beating the Rams, while the Hawks had to sweat out a tough win over the Broncos. Cards are 30th on defense, and this will be a shot for Shaun Alexander and co. to get it going even more on offense. The Hawks take this one in the desert. Seattle 26 Arizona 17

Buffalo at New York Jets – Big game for the Jets if they want to continue a playoff push. At 7-5 they have a real shot with games vs the Bills, at Minnesota, at the Dolphins, and vs Oakland. This game has got to come first, and with the Bills still a struggling team, I think that the Jets will make enough big plays to pull it out. NY Jets 20 Buffalo 10

Denver at San Diego – The Chargers are the hottest team in the league, and Sunday vs the Broncos, they will basically clinch the division and continue their run towards home field in the AFC. Solid top to bottom with the 5th ranked offense and the 8th ranked defense, Jay Cutler will get an education fast as the Brocnos lose their 4th straight. San Diego 29 Denver 17

New Orleans at Dallas – The Saints are making a playoff push, but the Cowboys are the hottest team in the league along with San Diego. Tony Romo is playing solid ball, and the boys are looking like a possible Super Bowl run is in the works. I think the Cowboys defense plays havoc on Drew Brees and the running game of the Saints and the Cowboys get it done. Dallas 27 New Orleans 17

Chicago at St.Louis – The Rams have backtracked like the Vikings since early in the year, and despite the fact that Rex Grossman will cost the Bears in the playoffs, this one should not be a problem. Chicago 17 St.Louis 9

    Matt…

Sorry to hear of your problems. I’m too many games back to matter. But I do think you have it wrong on three of these: I see the Colts, Eagles and 49ers as winners. Jacksonville is very good at home, but just too inconsistent this year.
