Week six is less than 24 hours away, and here are some news as well as commentary as we close in on another exciting Sunday of NFL Football.
* The Raiders have announced they have suspended unhappy wide out Jerry Porter. The official press release from the Raiders stated that Porter was suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team.” I have no problem with this, considering that Porter has basically said from day one that he was unhappy with the team and with the coach. They went so far as to put Porter on the scout team, playing behind every other wide out on the team. The Raiders should look to move him before the Tuesday deadline, but after this incident, I can’t imagine anyone giving the Raiders anything for Porter’s services.
* Terrell Owens went on his radio show and is stating that he is no longer talking with his wide out coach – Todd Haley. How much do you think that Bill Parcells sleeps at night, just wondering that hijinks that Owens is going to pull next? The word is that Owens was late to practice on Wednesday because he was not feeling well. Haley supposedly lit up Owens for being late, and eventually the two got into an argument. “There will be no more friendly nothing because I don’t trust anybody like that,” Owens said. “I will go out and practice hard. I will respect him as a coach, and he should respect me as a player. Anything outside of that I am not going to be able to deal with.” Just another week of the T.O. and the rest of the Cowboys show. Will this situation ever get any better? Probably not. At least the Cowboys on the field should get a break this week as they play the weak Houston Texans.
* Cards QB Kurt Warner has spoken out this week and stated that he is thinking about hanging up the cleats at the end of the year and calling it a career. I don’t think this is too far fetched, based on Warner’s play over the past few years, but I am wondering about the timing of coming out and saying this. Warner has just been pushed to the backup role for Matt Lienart, and now he’s stating he’s thinking retirement? How about supporting your rookie QB and keeping your mouth shut for awhile about “what’s best for you” Kurt.
* I know that my picks have been posted since yesterday, and no, I am not going to change any. The one game that has peaked my interest is the game in Florida between Cincinnati and Tampa Bay. This to me is the ultimate “trap” game for the Bengals. On the road, after a loss going into the bye, playing a team that has hung around the last two games, and right now you can’t stop the run. I’m sticking with my thought that the Bengals are going to win, but I am somewhat uncomfortable with my pick on that one, and wouldn’t be totally shocked with a Tampa upset.
