In what would go down as about the worst move a player could ever make, rumors have Junior Seau coming out of retirement and coming to play for the over the hill gang New England Pats. While this move would not only be dumb from a pratical standpoint, it would also tarnish the great, Hall of Fame career of Seau. Compare it to Reggie White playing for the Panthers, Franco Harris giving it a go with Seattle, Deion in his last harrah with the Ravens. All players past their prime, players that should have hung it up one team ago.
What happened to Seau talking about how he was “graduating” to the next level? How about the one-day deal he signed with the Chargers just so he could retire a Thunderbolt? I know that it is tough to walk away from the game, and that it can be argued that Seau still has gas in the tank, but this is simply nothing more than a great player past his prime trying to further his career with another team for one season.
The argument for his coming back can be said that the Pats need a linebacker, and Seau is still out there. If that is the case, why not develop a young player, and not have to overpay a player that again, is past his prime. Here’s one vote hoping the deal will NOT go down, and that Seau stays away from playing the game ever again. I want to remember Seau for his tenacious play with the Chargers, not a slower more injury prone aging linebacker with the Pats.
