I will be attending my first two NFL games, albeit preseason, this weekend. First tonight I will take in the Lions-Browns matchup at Browns Stadium, and then tomorrow its off to see the champs as I’ll be in Pittsburgh to see the Vikings take on the Steelers. I frankly cannot stand preseason, but you always seem to get a few decent storylines from the games, and from a few players that you never thought would make it and did.
As for tonight, I am interested to see the Lions. They are a team with a new coach, new quarterback, and pretty much new everything. A lot has been said about new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and how his system will work in Detriot. I for one like the direction that the Lions are heading. Depsite the fact they will win only 6-8 games this year, I think they are on their way to becoming at least a competitve team in the NFC North. Don’t forget it was just a year ago that a lot of people thought the Bears would be a 4-6 win team, and look what they did.
I am not saying that the Lions will duplicate that, but I am saying they will be better, and last weeks win at home over the Broncos gave their fans some much needed hope. As for the Browns, ugh. 3 centers, three situations as to why they are not playing. Injury, retirement, and drugs. Unreal. Maybe they can just let Charlie Frye start with the ball already in his hand, like you do when your playing ball with your friends. The orginization had better hope that Ken Dorsey is ready as a backup that can do some things.
I for one hopes that Ben Roethlisberger’s thumb is ready to go tomorrow for the matchup vs the Viks. There is a lot of rumors about Bill Cowher and his tenure with the Steelers ending at the end of their season, and those distractions cannot help a team coming off a Bowl win, but if there is one team that can overcome it – it is Pittsburgh. Overall a busy weekend, filled with lots of games and lots of players looking to make a name for themselves.
