Week one? Week 5? How about week 10? That seems to be the burning question when it comes to Terrell Owens and when he and coach Bill Parcells will have World War 3 and the romance between Owens and the Cowboys comes to a head.
Wednesday Owens was back at practice for the Cowboys, but as he says “not at 100 percent.” This was the first time that Owens was on the practice field after missing 14 straight practices with a hamstring injury. It seems like a forgone conclusion with words already from coach Parcells that he and Owens are eventually going to butt heads and worlds will collide on what is expected from Owens.
“I don’t want to have any friction with anybody,” Owens said. “But I feel like at some time, when someone starts to question my heart or my injury, it does get under your skin a little bit.”
“Can you get a little frustrated from time to time? Yeah,” Parcells said. “But that’s all. We’ll see. Things will work out.”
Can you sense the tension already?
Clearly Owens is not the type of player that Parcells likes to coach. He is arrogant, a loud mouth, is not a team player, and basically shows off at any chance he can get.
Parcells is a coach that likes to avoid media distractions, and have control over his team. With Owens in the mix, this simply cannot happen.
My early bet is by week 5 the situation will come to a boiling point. If Owens is healthy, he will open up his mouth enough to get him in trouble. If he is not healthy, he and Parcells will butt heads over when he will be back to playing. Either way, things are going to get real ugly in Big D real quick.
